Public Art of the University of Houston System hosts free Public Art Tours on the first Friday of each month from 12-1 pm. These tours will alternate between University of Houston, University of Houston-Downtown, and the University of Houston Sugar Land location. Each iteration of the tour will vary featuring select artworks led by public art staff and guest tour guides. The walk will begin with a brief welcome and introduction of the day’s tour. Participants are encouraged to wear walking shoes and bring water.


Tour Guide Biography

Michael Guidry serves as curator of Public Art of the University of Houston System.

As curator, Guidry oversees programming, commissioning of new artworks and the maintenance of the collection at University of Houston, University of Houston Sugar Land, University of Houston–Downtown, University of Houston–Clear Lake and University of Houston–Victoria.

Since becoming curator in November 2005, Guidry has completed 26 major projects. Guidry’s art career spans over 20 years.

Before joining UHS, he worked as the assistant registrar and curator of Traveling Exhibitions for the New Orleans Museum of Art. He has served on the Houston Arts Alliance’s Civic Art & Design Committee and served as Chair of the Lawndale Art Center’s Programming Committee. He has curated independent projects in Houston and New Orleans, and has served as a juror on numerous national public art panels. Guidry received his BA from the University of New Orleans and his MFA from the University of Houston.
