Public Art UHS and the School of Art are excited to announce the YardWorks 2026 winning artist, Marc Newsome. Marc’s YardWorks commission is titled Dirty 30!, a ground-based sculptural installation inspired by Houston’s longstanding domino culture. More than a game, Marc notes that dominoes serve as a social ritual that fosters connection across generations and communities.
Join us for the debut of Dirty 30! at Sunday in the District, KGMCA’s signature free, family-friendly community celebration, from 12-4 PM on Sunday, November 8, 2026. Come learn more about the work from the artist, play some rounds of dominoes, and witness the showcase of creativity and collaboration that defines the Katherine G. McGovern College of the Arts.
Marc is an accomplished photographer, filmmaker, educator, and visual artist with over a decade of experience in teaching, exhibitions, and public art. He holds an MFA in Interdisciplinary Practice and Emerging Forms from the University of Houston (2024). Marc’s solo and public art projects celebrate community and culture, notably his ongoing I Love 3rd Ward series documenting Houston’s Third Ward area and its socioeconomic changes from gentrification.
