Gift of Occidental Energy, 2005 in
Originally commissioned by Occidental Energy, Stilt Houses was gifted to the University of Houston in 2005. Raised in Houston, Justin Berry’s Stilt Houses is an installation inspired by the vernacular architecture of communities along the Gulf of Mexico. The result is a unique commentary on development and the built-up environment endemic to coastal communities. As a youth, Berry attended Houston’s High School for Performing and Visual Arts and went on to train at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston/Tufts University and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Still practicing as an artist, Berry’s interests now reside in technology and digital media. As part of the Crossroads team at Yale University’s Blended Reality: Applied Research Project, Berry is helping to advance creative interdisciplinary exploration of Augmented and Virtual Reality technologies between the arts. He currently resides in New Haven, where he teaches at Yale School of Art.
