Studio Workshop: Classical Indian Dance with Silambam Houston

Saturday, May 4th | 2:00 – 4:00pm  

Join dance crew Silambam Houston as they teach the fundamentals of classical Indian dance backdropped by Shahzia Sikander’s monumental sculpture, Havah…to breathe, air, life.

Explore the rich history of Classical Indian Dance and learn the foundational movements of this unique dance style.

This workshop is free and open to the public, but please RSVP to secure your spot.

Free parking vouchers are available for workshop participants at the UH Welcome Center Garage at 4434 University DriveThe Garage is located a 5-10 minute walk from the workshop location in Cullen Family Plaza. A map from the welcome garage to the artwork is available here.

WALKING DIRECTIONS 

Upon parking in the Welcome Center Garage, take the north-west elevator exit leading towards University Drive. Turn left to proceed westward on University Drive, following the designated path to Cullen Family Plaza. The pathway is paved to comply with ADA standards. For the multimedia exhibition Havah… to breathe, air, life, artist Shahzia Sikander has created major new work on the theme of justice. The work in its entirety is composed of four distinct elements, two of which will be on display at the University of Houston Spring 2024.
